Did you know? There are places in the world where certain chemical UV filters will be banned soon – after sunbathing and washing they persist in the ecosystem, endangering marine life and even entering the food chain (this is sick, we know). Hawaii will ban sunscreens containing Oxybenzone and/or Octinoxate. starting from 2021 – due to their toxicity, these ingredients do irreversible harm to coral reefs.

These issues challenge the beauty world like never before – the only alternative is switching to natural sun protection (read: pure mineral sunscreens that are equally gentle to your skin and nature). MÁDARA certified sunscreens only use ECOCERT/Cosmos-approved ingredients – they are 100% safe to take to Hawaii with you.

Product Questions & Answers

Is SUN15 Beach BB Shimmering Sunscreen SPF15 suitable for the face?

No, MÁDARA SUN15 sunscreen is suitable for the body and hands. For face protection, please choose any of our face sunscreens – SUN20 Weightless Sun Milk (SPF20), SUN30 Antioxidant Sunscreen (SPF30), SUN30 Age-Defying Face Sunscreen (SPF30) or City CC Colour Correcting Cream (SPF15).

What does broad spectrum UV protection mean?

Skin care products that ensure broad spectrum sun protection are able to protect not only against UVB rays (cause suntan and sunburn, contribute to cancer risk), but also UVA rays (prevalent even on cloudy days, generate free radicals, cause deep wrinkles and ageing, and also contribute to cancer risk).

What’s the difference between chemical and natural sunscreens?

If chemical sun protection products penetrate the skin and absorb sun rays, natural sunscreens use mineral-based filters (MÁDARA uses zinc oxide that provides the highest levels of UV blocking due to the optimum particle size) that physically reflect the harmful UV rays.

Why should I prefer a natural, mineral-based sunscreen?

As studies detect a certain health risk associated with chemical filters (accumulation in the body, possible irritation and even hormonal alterations), mineral-based (also known as physical or natural) filters are considered safer and even more effective – creating a physical barrier, natural sunscreens work from the moment of application and, as their action has nothing to do with chemical reactions, they work for as long as they stay on your skin (means you might even need fewer applications throughout the day, compared to chemical sunscreens).

Should I only apply sunscreen in the summer?

Your skin is affected by UV rays 365 days a year. Moreover, the harmful UVA rays are also prevalent on cloudy days and can affect your skin through the window, contributing to cancer risk and causing premature ageing. So, the short answer is – take care of broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection all year round.
