Cleansing? Easy game. But it can lead to excess oiliness, sensitivity or dehydration, when done wrong. You better learn our tips and do it like a PRO.

1 ALWAYS REMOVE YOUR MAKEUP

And no excuses here! Sleeping beauties, who refuse to do this, wake up with clogged pores, pimples, blackheads, dull skin and so on. Let your skin breathe – get rid of impurities, excess oils and makeup before you go to bed. Almost every cleanser will do the trick (as long as it’s non-irritating) – choose yours according to your skin type and other conditions.

Madara Cleansing Milk with jasmineWe recommend MÁDARA Purifying Foam for all skin types, especially normal and combination skin. If your skin feels dry or dehydrated, go for Cleansing Milk. If you’re looking for an effective no-rinse cleanser, look no further than Micellar Water – it’s suitable for all skin types and will be handy on-the-go or other occasions when there is no water around.

2 USE LUKEWARM OR TEPID WATER

Too warm water can be too harsh for your skin – especially when used regularly. It can leave your skin dryer, pores more visible and can potentially damage skin capillaries. Too cool water, on the other hand, could not be enough to allow your cleanser to work to its fullest. Opt for tepid or lukewarm water instead.

3 RINSE WELL

Be sure to rinse thoroughly, as any leftover molecules from rinse-off cleansers might potentially contribute to skin irritation and dryness.

4 DO IT BOTH MORNING AND NIGHT

NIGHT: Regardless of its type, your skin must be purified from environmental build-up, sweat and excess oils, produced throughout the day, to allow your skin breathe freely and rejuvenate during the night. This is especially important if you wear makeup – to remove it all before you go to bed. MORNING: Your skin is repairing itself actively while you’re asleep, and this process includes oil and toxin secretion as well. So, it’s best to start your day with a refreshing splash of water! If your skin is normal or dry, a refreshing touch of Purifying Foam will be enough. If its combination or oily, it will feel and look better throughout the day after a more profound morning ritual – try one of our soap bars and don’t skip the toner.

5 CIRCULAR UPWARD MOTIONS

Don’t rub. Always massage the cleanser into your skin in circular motions – this will help to dissolve impurities, oil and any makeup leftovers in the most gentle manner. Direct your motions upwards – against gravity. Be gentle, especially when using scrubs, so that your skin doesn’t become irritated.

6 TAKE YOUR TIME

Madara Cleansers: Peel Mask, Micellar Water, Detox MaskMany people are very quick with their cleanser. Slow down a little to allow your cleanser to dissolve excess sebum and oils. It takes some time to lift the dirt out of your pores.

7 FIND YOUR PERFECT FORMULA

Read labels and check out the textures. Creamy, milky formulas are more suitable for dry, dehydrated and ageing skin. New generation foam-based rinse-off cleansers and micellar waters adapt to any skin type, while classic soap bars offer more intense action, and are thus more suitable for combination, oily and/or acne-prone skin types.

Don’t overlook mildness in search for effectiveness – good cleansers combine both. Harsh cleansers or over-cleansing might lead to dehydration – simply because over-cleansed skin is forced to produce more sebum trying to restore its moisture and protective layer. This is often an issue for people with oily or combination skin, who tend to choose aggressive products to control the oiliness. The more they dry their skin, the oilier it gets.
